I believe our voice is such an important part of who we are. Being able to make music with our own unique instrument is such an exciting and empowering thing. I love to sing and to teach others how to use their voice. I believe we all have the right to sing and it brings me great joy to help individuals feel confident, technically sound and able to express themselves through having lessons with a caring, experienced and trained teacher.

My career has seen me work across various genres from Pop to Musical Theatre to Opera as a teacher and a professional artist. I have completed postgraduate studies in Classical Voice at The Royal College of Music in London and hold a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Classical Voice Performance from The University of Adelaide. I have taught singing, flute and acting for over fifteen years to various different ages and abilities from primary school students, to tertiary students, to adults and I feel equally as comfortable supporting a beginner as I do working with experienced singers. I am also a highly experienced performer, having performed in musicals on the West End in London to opera at the Finnish National Opera and Opera Australia.

I have a holistic approach to teaching, working with not only the voice but the individual.

Lessons are run from my home studio in Eltham. They can also be held online or in some circumstances I can travel to you (prices for travel will be adjusted accordingly).

Current rates for private lessons:

$80 for 60 mins

$60 for 45 mins

$40 for 30 mins

Group lessons are also available on request.

Whether you want to sing for fun, as a professional, complete exams, prepare for tertiary study or even as a vehicle for self healing, I’d love to work with you!

FAQs

+ What will I learn?

A lesson is usually broken into three parts-

Technique - eg. warm ups, breath exercises, scales, maybe even tongue twisters!

Musicianship - eg. learning the notes, learning the rhythm, where and how to breathe, what style technically to use

Performance - eg. What do the words mean? What am I trying to communicate? Thinking about how the music and words connect.

My aim is to teach sound technique with an understanding of the voice and how it works so we can sing in a safe a free way. We use the voice in different ways depending on which genre we sing and it is important to understand those differences so we can sing with optimal vocal health. We will also learn how to follow the music (skill level and style appropriate) and read music, if that is of interest. We will also look at the lyrics (words) and how they fit with the music and communicating those words through the music.

I teach everything from classical singing to musical theatre to jazz and pop.

+ Do you have any specialisations?

Coloratura singing

Crossover singing and safely moving across different genres

Performance Anxiety

Exploring the relationship between text and music.

+ Tell me more about a holistic approach.

As a singer our body is our instrument so if we are feeling anxious or depressed or absolutely fantastic all of theses things can affect how we sing. When I see technical issues I look not only at what is happening anatomically but also mentally. I have undertaken studies in reiki, psychology and music therapy and continue to learn in these areas to best support myself and my students in having a true deep connection with the voice. My interest in this area can be of particular interest to those who suffer from performance anxiety or low self esteem.

Please note, the role of a Holistic Singing Teacher is not that of a Counsellor and any work done in this way is to be mutually agreed upon.
